Iceland Elopement with Two Dresses:
A Dreamy White + Bold Black

Pagan ceremony, black sand beach, Yoda cave, mountains, Kvernufoss, Skogafoss

Shelbi and Shawn jokingly called Iceland their second home. They visited multiple times, got engaged here, and so when the time came to make it official, an elopement on a remote black sand beach felt right. These two kept things beautifully simple – no extravagant decorations or catering, no designated hair & make up artist, no flowers. Instead, they focused on what mattered the most. A meaningful pagan ceremony that honored local traditions, with Shelbi’s sister and their two best friends as witnesses. And a magical adventure afterwards, with just the two of them, lost in Iceland’s otherworldly landscapes.

The couple got ready at Black Beach Suites, next to Reynisfjara. But instead of heading to the most overcrowded spot in Iceland, we took them to a secluded black sand beach nearby. There, they shared a heartfelt first look, and then Haukur Bragason, one of the few goði (pagan priests) who conducts ceremonies in English, arrived to perform a beautiful marriage ritual.

After the ceremony, we whisked Shelbi and Shawn away to some of our favorite hidden gems that they hadn’t explored before. And let’s talk about the dresses (yes, plural!). Shelbi started the day in an effortlessly elegant white gown from Watters before switching into a bold black dress from Milla that looked like it was made for Iceland’s moody vibe. Think windswept romance meets badass main character energy!

Scroll down to see how their adventure unfolded. Trust me, it’s a good one.
