Off the grid moody summer elopement in the Icelandic Highlands
Some places in the world just feel unreal, like they belong to another time, or even another planet. The Highlands of Iceland are one of those places. Remote, rugged, desolate and completely unpredictable, they are not for the faint of heart. But for the right couple, wanting to escape the tourist crowds and embark on a crazy adventure, they hold an irresistible magic.
canyon, lava fields, crater lake, secret waterfall, river crossings
M and C were exactly that kind of couple.
They knew they wanted something intimate, just the two of them, away from crowds, with the landscapes that look unique and otherworldly. And so from the moment we had our first call, I was sure that the Highlands would be the perfect choice for them.
The day started at a cozy cabin in the south, where they got ready separately before sharing a quiet first look right outside. The anticipation, the excitement – it was all there. And as soon as we hit the road toward the Highlands, we knew this day was going to be truly special.
Eloping in Iceland is always an adventure, but the Highlands take it to another level. The raw, untouched nature. The ever-changing landscapes. The feeling of being completely alone in the world with the person you love most. It’s not the easiest place to get to – you’ll need a decent 4×4, willingness to embrace the elements, and deep appreciation for the unpredictable and the unknown. But if you’re up for it, the Highlands will give you a day you’ll never forget!
